Klondice

Published by MindWare, Klondice is a push-your-luck dice-chucker for 2-6 players, where each player's decisions will impact the following players' scoring opportunities.

Players take turns rolling up to five six-sided dice, placing one or more of them in rows on the mine cart board, with the last die in each row gaining the reward (or paying the cost in the case of negative rows). If you attempt to complete a row but fall short, you will make it much easier for the next player to do it, but it's funny how long it can sometimes take for someone to just roll the last number required for a lucrative row.

This is a very easy game to understand and play, yet the decisions are meaningful and interesting each turn. It plays very differently with two players compared with more but remains a fun, gently tactical experience at all player counts - except perhaps six, which feels like too many. Turn order can make a big difference, so you may want to alternate that each round, but it's such a short game you might not mind. In fact, after the game's suggested six rounds, you may well find yourself wanting to go again! There are 12 double-sided game boards, meaning you could play four whole games without playing the same board twice.

The 'Dice Mountain' dice tower is sturdy, the glittery gold dice are beautiful and the mine cart game board holder looks great too. For a family-friendly mix of tactics and luck, delivering a great experience whether you win or lose, you may feel you've struck gold with Klondice.
