WizKids continue to knock the ball out of the park with their Iconix series of Heroclix figures. Since he first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, Batman has been through several revamps, but whether you grew up with the Batman from the Silver Age (1950s sci-fi adventures), Adam West's Batman from the camp TV series in the 1960s or the Dark Knight reinvention of the 1980s, the Batcave has been a common thread throughout. This Batcave Iconix release will surely be a must-have display piece for any Bat-fan.

The Iconix Batcave gives us six Heroclix sculpts: two figures and four items that are classed as terrain, each with a 5-point value. You'll almost certainly already have several Heroclix versions of Batman but this sculpt has him with his cowl removed. Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth has been around almost as long as the Caped Crusader. His Heroclix figure may not be particularly strong in a fight in his own right but he is able to interact for free with any of the Batcave terrain items...

And it's the iconic terrain items that really mark out this Iconix package. There's the Batcomputer, which has its own Heroclix dial and adds skills to friendly characters. There's a Batsuit in a display cabinet and a Kryptonite ring that can be used against any Kryptonian... That's not just Superman, of course. Superman may be described as the 'Last Son of Krypton' but what with the Phantom Zone, the Bottled City of Kandor and the wide assortment of mostly renegade characters who were apparently offworld, it sometimes seemed in the Silver Age like hardly anyone was at home when the planet Krypton exploded.
The standout item in this set, however, is the Giant Penny. It's commonly shown in the background in illustrations of the Batcave. If you play with it in Heroclix it serves as an obstacle whose effect on knockbacks is determined by a coin toss: Heads you take 3 damage and are Immobile until the end of your next turn, and Tails you move the Giant Penny...
We'll be setting up some Heroclix encounters in the Batcave so we can make full thematic use of the terrain items, tho' we mostly expect to keep this Iconix set as a display piece. And WizKids have tantalisingly labelled it as Volume 1. What other Batcave delights have they got waiting for us?
