Heads Will Roll is a pocket game from Lay Waste Games that seems tailor-made for inveterate dice chuckers, yet it's a game that uses no actual dice! Instead, it comprises six solid metal dice-like objects. These are in the shape of a treasure chest, a shield, two copper-coloured skulls and two silver-coloured skulls. The pieces all have a satisfying heft.

To play, you pick up the six metal pieces and roll them like dice. You then need to flick the shield so that it passes between a pair of matching skulls. This earns you another flick to pass between the other pair of matching skulls. With the flick you earn from this you must flick the shield so that it hits the treasure chest. If you miss the treasure chest you score no points at all but if you hit it you'll score a point for hitting the chest plus points for passing between the skulls. Copper skulls give you 1 point and the silver skulls give you 2 points, and these points are doubled for pairs of skulls that share the same orientation (eg: both silver skulls are laying upside down).
The rules suggest several possible variants but that's pretty much the entirety of the basic game. It takes any number of players, with the win going to the player who is first to 21. Like most dexterity games, it sounds silly but it turns out to be more fun than it has any right to be. Tho' Heads Will Roll is boxed, it comes with a small canvas bag which you can put the pieces into and slip the whole thing into your pocket - ideal for taking with you as a game to play with mates on a visit to the pub. We've also made good use of Heads Will Roll as an on-theme dexterity interlude during games of Dungeons & Dragons.
Heads Will Roll has previously been available in the UK from Amazon, tho' at the time of writing it is showing as out of stock. You can click here tho' to check on its current availability.
