StegegetS Solar System

We featured StegegetS Moomin just before Christmas in 2023. It's an appealing roll & write game from Ion Game Design themed around Tove Jansson's Moomin characters and aimed at children and families. With StegegetS Solar System, Jon Manker has adapted his design, with planetary objects in place of Moomintroll and his friends.

StegegetS Solar System uses the same core mechanic as StegegetS Moomin. It uses a pad of similarly large-format sheets (42 x 42 cm) but with more dice and some slightly more advanced combinations; effectively introducing some basic algebra. You track your path around the solar system, claiming the planets on which you land by meeting their roll & write requirements. You can collect water and consume it to take re-rolls or you can donate it to the thirsty aliens visiting the solar system from Alpha Centauri. Also some sites have special bonuses that differ from game to game.

Tho' it's still a light game, the step up in complexity makes it a natural progression from StegegetS Moomin, and it's sure to appeal to children who develop an interest in Space. Tho' you don't need to know about the planets and planetoids to play the game, you can expect StegegetS Solar System to further stimulate children's interest in the night sky, so it's bound to prove to be an educational experience.

StegegetS Solar System takes 2-6 players, and the number of turns is varied at the different player counts (fewer turns with more players) to keep the playing time manageable. Our plays at Board's Eye View have mostly come in at around 30 minutes.
