SOS Mission

Djeco's SOS Mission is a light dice-rolling push-your-luck game for 2-4 players. There are set collection bonuses up for grabs and the game can be played and enjoyed by quite young children and as a family game.

The game is themed around rescuing pets from a veterinary clinic fire. Players take turns to roll five custom six-sided dice showing the numbers 1-3, a fire bucket, a bell and a 'no entry' sign. You can re-roll anything other than 'no entry' dice but you must always place out at least one die per roll.

You're placing dice out to meet the fire extinguishing requirements of cards in the fire row and/or the rescue requirements of the various pets on display. To take a fire card you need to be able to place out 1-3 buckets; pets require various mixes of number dice, bells and/or buckets. All the fire and animal cards have scoring values in the range 1-3. In addition, there will be cards in a reward row that you can claim when you have cards with the pair of icons demanded on the reward card.

The decision space in SOS Mission is obviously when and where to apply the dice you rolled. Re-rolls involve pushing your luck because you've always a 1-in-6 chance of rolling a 'no entry' sign, which is useless and cannot be re-rolled. The bonus reward cards make some animal and fire cards more valuable than others: it's always going to be worth choosing cards that give you the icons needed for a reward card bonus over others... None of these require heavy calculations, which makes this such a good game to play with young children developing their logical and arithmetic agility. And most children are drawn too to the animal rescue theme.

SOS Mission comes neatly packaged in a small slide box. The game is designed by Cédric Martinez with art by Clément Lefévre, and it plays in around 20 minutes.
