Power Rangers Heroclix

It's always exciting when another new IP gets added to the Heroclix catalogue and WizKids' new Heroclix Iconix box of Power Rangers figures certainly doesn't disappoint. It's a set showcasing the Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink, Black and Green Power Rangers, all sculpted in impressive action poses, plus a more maternal-looking than menacing representation of Rita Repulsa - the evil sorceress.
In the case of Rita Repulsa, appearances can be deceptive. Her stats give her a points value of 300, as compared with the 60 for most of the individual Power Rangers, tho' the Green Ranger's Dragonzord-summoning ability boosts his points value to 100.
As usual, each of the sculpts comes with a card that shows an exploded view of the character's Heroclix dial and sets out their special powers. There's a suitably oversized Dargonzord bystander token, and there are six Putty Patroller bystander tokens available to be summoned by Rita Repulsa. The bystander tokens aren't purely passive: each has their own stats.
Experienced Heroclix players will immediately be able to pit the Power Rangers against their sorceress nemesis but it's perhaps a missed opportunity that this Iconix box hasn't been packaged as a Starter Set so that anyone coming new to Heroclix could also play it immediately out of the box. As it is, newbies who buy this box other than as a display piece will have to download the Heroclix rules or at least an introductory How to Play Guide. We expect those coming new to Heroclix with this set will likely go on to pick up packs of Marvel or DC figures to pit against their Power Rangers team.
As there's no playmat included in the Heroclix Iconix Power Rangers box, we've shown the sculpts here on Board's Eye View on one of Loke's Essential Starter Set of RPG plain battle maps. Along with Loke's Essential Dungeon Set, the Essential Starter Set includes six wet/dry erase terrain maps marked out with a 1-inch grid.
The Power Rangers in the Iconix box are those from the original Mighty Morphin' TV series. There were other versions of the team, so there's scope for further releases so that we get the team of Turbo Power Rangers and Power Rangers in Space. Followers of the IP might wonder if I might have a personal interest in seeing a TJ Johnson (Red Turbo Ranger/Blue Space Ranger) sculpt :-)
