One of Us

One of Us is a light cooperative party game for 3-7 players designed by Johannes Berger and Julien Gupta. It's published by Kosmos. It's a game for friends who know each other well but it works too as an icebreaker for players who don't yet know each other.

Everyone chooses a colour and is dealt a hand of cards so they have one of each player's colour. There's a deck of around 150 topic cards. Most of these are pictures but there are some that cite an expression or a song. For each game you create a randomised deck of 15 cards.

To play, you flip a card and players all decide which person around the table has the closest association with that picture, song or expression, indicating their selection by placing their card of that player's colour face down in front of them. The colour cards are simultaneously revealed and you collectively 'win' if there is a majority who agree on the same answer; you lose if there is no overall majority. The rules include some variants but for the basic game you are trying for majority agreement on at least 10 of the 15 cards.

We've commented in other reviews about games that verge on psychology experiments and, like It's a Match (Cranio Creations), which we described as 'Dixit with stereotypes'. One of Us is in a similar category but its 'majority counts' mechanic also reminded us of Colorful (Jordan Draper Games). Like Colorful, it can make for an entertaining 15-20 minutes filler but just be warned, there's really not much of a game with just three players; you'll find it's more of a game at its higher player counts.
