Last Penguin
Last Penguin is a silly but fun dexterity and push-your-luck game for 3-6 players. It's designed by Kenta Murayama and published by Korea Boardgames.
The game comprises a deck of 24 penguin cards. Some of these have scoring values and others are 'events' that trigger particular actions when the card is revealed. Gameplay is simple: you pick up the top card of the deck and place it face-down so that other players cannot see its value or effect. You place a finger on the card to claim it but other players can also compete for the card by placing one of their fingers on it; the card isn't won unless and until a player is the last one to have their finger on the card. At this point, the player who has won the card must claim it - flipping it and picking it up using only their fingers. If it's a scoring card they keep it; if it's an event card, they carry out the indicated effect.
So far so simple. But each turn a new card is added, and to be in contention for a card players need to have a finger on it. That means that, at most, a player may be able to lay claim to 10 cards on the table but even that will require a stretch - especially with hands and fingers entangled with those of other competing players: think of it as hands-only Twister (Milton Bradley). We said it was silly, but it's a fun filler nonetheless, and one that you can play in around 15 minutes.
Tho' cards are revealed when won, it's only the player who drew the card who knows what it is when it's first played. Going for a card is likely then to be a push-your-luck gamble. The game tho' opens up ample scope for bluff and misdirection; you may be enticing opponents to go for a card that you know you don't want - typically because it's a negative event card. And if you're the last player with a finger on a card it's highly likely that you'll have to remove some or all of your fingers from other cards in order to pick up the card. Expect much amusing chaos and you won't be disappointed!
