Go Big

Designed by Antony Proietti and published by Sinister Fish, Go Big is a card game for 3-6 players where you bank and score the face value of cards that are still in front of you when your next turn comes around. It's played with a deck of 97 cards (thirteen of each of numbers 1-7).

Each turn players draw two cards either from the face-down draw deck or from the two-card market display, and they play 1-3 cards in front of them. If they play more than one card, these have to be a pair or triple of the same number. The cards you play are compared to those previously played by other players but you only compare them with the sets of similar size - so pairs, for example, are only compared with other pairs; triples and singletons are ignored. If my cards are lower than others with which they are being compared, the higher numbered cards are removed from play. This makes Go Big very much a 'take that' game where you're trying not just to score your own cards but also to prevent other players from scoring theirs.

It's only the nearest higher set that gets removed, so there's scope for tactical play with cards potentially being shielded by lower value cards. It's much easier to score with your low-numbered cards but these only score their low face value; there are potentially much larger rewards to be had if you can bank cards with a high face value. If you're holding three 7s, for example, you will want make a judgement call about when to play them based on what you think other players are holding...

Go Big is a light easy to play 'take that' hand management game with a strong push-your-luck element. With a playing time of around 15 minutes, it's a lively filler and one you'll find reward re-play.
