Food Trucks

Food Trucks is a light, family-friendly card game for 2–4 players in which you play as food truck owners racing to serve up the best dishes to hungry customers. Designed by Jose D Flores, with art by Michel Verdu, and published by TCG Factory, the game offers a casual, accessible experience that’s easy to teach and quick to play.

At its core, Food Trucks is a set collection game. Players compete to fulfil customer orders, which are represented as specific sets of dishes. On your turn, you can either collect dish cards from a central 4x4 grid or serve a customer using the dishes already in your hand. An added twist comes in the form of delivery orders, which introduce a light time pressure to the otherwise relaxed pace.

This game is clearly aimed at children and families looking for a simple, laid-back experience. There’s a touch of tension in racing to serve an order before your opponents, but the multiple scoring paths and absence of major surprises keep the gameplay low-stakes. The theme is charming, with colourful and inviting artwork, and the setup is refreshingly quick.

That said, Food Trucks may feel a bit too mild for more seasoned gamers, even as a filler game. It leans heavily on its approachable theme and, while the idea of collecting dishes and serving meals is appealing, the overall gameplay can feel a little too straightforward. Still, for all my complaints about its simplicity, I’ve found myself playing it a dozen times — and that says something...
