Bonfire Party

Bonfire Party is a simultaneous-reveal cooperative game for 2-4 players played over five very quick rounds. Players have a hand of red- and blue-tipped 'matches' and the idea is that you are building a bonfire each round by collectively playing the requisite number of matches from your hand.

Each round requires a specific number of matches of either colour; so just one red or one blue in the first round, rising to five in round 5. If it's round 2 and neither the total of red or blue matches is exactly two, then you fail to ignite the fire and must try again. Problem is, the matches played are discarded whether you succeed or fail and players only have a finite number of matches in hand...
This makes for a fast five-minute filler. There's an element of deduction in that players can try to reason what colours others will play based on a quick calculation of how many of each colour the player still has in hand but realistically Bonfire Party is more like a super-quick and tactile version of The Mind (Coiledspring Games). If your plays are like ours at Board's Eye View, you'll find players psyching each other out to get in synch.
With art and design by Yoshiaki Tomioka, Bonfire Party has attractive wooden components, including long (unstrikable) 'matches' and stacking 'flames' and it is packaged by Itten in their range of tall thin-boxed 'Funbrick' titles. One to play around the campfire, perhaps.
